On Christmas day we woke to a light sprinkling of snow on the ground. The whitening of the world did not last long. Mid-morning, the scene was dull brown once again.
But two days later, the world was winter-white. We were drawn to walk outside for a bit where we enjoyed the fresh, cool air and the pristine look of the world.
The park was not completely covered with snow, but what there was added an extra dimension to the place.
The snow had covered everything. From rocks, to plants, to ground, to trees. The ground was just waiting to be disturbed by the laughter and play of children.
The Holiday planters received a new look – a look that suited them well. As did the fir trees that line the park.
Benches that line the road for weary walkers, or for friends to sit and meet, were no longer in use. They will wait patiently until the warmer weather encourages people to use them again.
I hope you enjoyed the walk in our neighbourhood after our first snowfall. It has snowed a little since, refreshing the covering on our ground. We still wait, though, for the snowstorms that will bring more inches of white and a population of snowmen.
What weather did you experience two days after Christmas?

Nothing like the first snow. We had snow Saturday- so were able to cross country ski Sunday and Monday mornings- gorgeous!
It really is beautiful when the first snow falls. You must have had more than we did if you are able to go skiing
It has been hot hot hot here, sun out every day. I can’t remember the last time we had rain. It is going to 41C here today, we are looking for a quite day, all the curtains drawn and the hope that the house doesn’t too hot too soon, but I think it is too late, I can feel it already. Your photos couldn’t have been posted at a more perfect time. They look so beautiful. I wish I was there. I would love to play in the snow. I have only been able to do that very rarely. Thank you Colline.
It is not pleasant to feel all that heat and not have the ability to escape it. I hope it rains soon so the you can cool down a little. I enjoy this time of year when it snows as it is not too cold yet and one can enjoy the beauty of the snow. Walking in the crisp, cool air is also the prefect way to escape the overheated living spaces we occupy.
It sounds wonderful
I have become used to the weather and have grown to enjoy the seasons that are so different form those in the southern hemisphere
Dull and brown … plus cold! Sounds like Cincinnati, but you get more cold. Several years ago we had the biggest, single-storm history for here … 17 inches … and except for the piles in parking lots, it was all gone about a week later.
Winter just does not seem right without snow. Last year we did not have much – and it was missed. I am hoping for more this year so I can enjoy the white scenery and the snowmen on front lawns
Please send us some snow here in Prague too. I would love to do some sliding.:) 2weeks before the Christmas we had about 3inch of snow I think, but then it disappeared quick. Until now our weather been grayish and rainy.:(
How terribly dull! I wish you some snow soon – it will help to take your winter blues away, I hope
I’m jealous! Wish we had snow instead of drizzle, drizzle, and more drizzle!
The drizzle can be a bit depressing! Thankfully ours eventually turned to white flakes
Nice photos. I just hate winter and cold. but I am glad you are enjoying it!!! namaste
Not nice when it is -40 degrees with the wind chill. But thankfully that is not every day
Wow. You have my deepest respect. Where do you live? I hope that you have none of those days this year. Hugs and warmth, Barbara xxoo
We live in Toronto, Canada. January and February are the coldest months and on days like those we are thankful to step inside from the cold
I bet you are. LOL. I am in Cleveland so I kind of understand. Hugs, Barbara
It looks so nice, Colline, and you describe it so beautifully, but I’m so glad it’s all yours. Happy just to look.
It is a season that I have grown accustomed to. And the beauty of snow just adds another dimension to the cold winter – one that I do enjoy
Pretty, pretty,pretty SNOW!!
That looks like the squeal my children gave when they saw the snow through the window
LOL! I can imagine their delight!!
They absolutely love it! And when we go out walking together, I know it will take three times the length of time to reach our destination and they gamble in the snow on the way
Ahhhhhh…the wonderful years
:)
I love when you take me back down memory lane to our shared home town. Well, shared in 2009 anyway. Isn’t the snow beautiful? I love the winter. I know. I’m a rare one, but I can’t understand why when it looks so lovely. And, yes I do have to shovel it, but I still enjoy it. One of the most peaceful things to do is shovel snow.
Beautiful pictures, Colline. Thanks for sharing!
Have not had the shovel experience yet
And to be honest, I prefer the winter to have snow. Nothing more depressing, I find, to experience the extreme cold and not have it broken by white winter scenes.
Hi,
Love the photos, the snow looks lovely, it is a winter wonderland.
It really is – and when the snow is still pristine, it is beautiful to walk in.
More power to your blog Colline, Happy New Year my friend
Thank you Jake. And all the best to you as well.
Hi Colline, these are so lovely! Here is South Africa we just had 35′ sizzling hot summers day! Plus some rain! Also perfect! Happy New year! X
I remember those Christmases. A day spent by the pool, or sitting under the shade of a tree. I have grown to enjoy our current ones too, huddles up nice and cozy in our home.
Very nice, Colline. We’ve yet to have any appreciable snow. An inch here, a dusting there, is all we’ve had. Around us though, they’ve been getting plenty of the white stuff. It is only a matter of time before it is our turn.
Always seems to come with a bang in January and February!
It has been somewhat decent in London these past few days. Miles and I have been enjoying our afternoon walks. Enjoy the snow for us. Miles loves the snow!
I most definitely will – until it starts to melt and I try to avoid puddles
Beautiful photographs Colline! It’s been cold here in south Texas the past few days, and very over cast and rainy. No snow…
Do you normally get snow down there in Texas Alex? I always think of Texas as being hot and arid – guess watching those cowboy movies with my dad in my youth has influenced my belief!
North Texas does get some snow. It’s snowed once here in San Antonio in the two years I’ve been here, not much….but it was a MAJOR event!
I can imagine. People who experience snow on a yearly basis tend to be blasé about it. In fact, if there is not enough snow, the people here get upset as it affects their winter sports activities
I wish I could feel snow…but everyday it rains a lot…yeach…very tropical then
I prefer snow to rain – at least I do not get wet!
Hehehehee…unfortunately I live in tropical country, for having snow I need to hide into my fridge first hehehehehe
That is Winter magic and you captured them all for us to enjoy. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the pictures.
Very lovely winter photos. My favorite is winter bench.
Thank you. I love that one too
I gave you a Like even though I not only dislike, but I absolutely hate, detest, loathe, despise and abhor snow and its wintery cousins. I am definitely NOT a winter person. You handled it very nicely, though. You have a nice way of putting things.
And thanks for stopping by and Liking my “Peek-a-Boo” entry to this week’s photo challenge at http://fstopfantasy.wordpress.com/2013/01/19/weekly-photo-challenge-beyond-peek-a-boo/
Thank you Cris for your kind words.
Keep up the good work.
