Weekly Photo Challenge: Regret

My intention had been to show my children and husband the awe-inspiring and breathtaking scenery at God’s Window: a mountain pass found in the Drakensburg mountains in Mpumalanga, South Africa. I had seen the pass (which is a part of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve) when I was a teenager and wanted to share the beauty of my experience with my family. We had left home early so that we could see the scene in the early morning light. Unfortunately the higher into the mountains we went, the less we could see. The mist blocked our sight and we decided to turn back for safety reasons. Up to today, I regret not seeing that sight once again as we do not know whether we will have another opportunity to do so.

      1. I visited there once in 1974; a most amazing experience. One minute you are walking and wonder what all the fuss is about; the next minute the whole world opens up into a window of beauty! Go back if you can.

    1. When I visited God’s window I was on a school trip and we hiked to it very early in the morning. I remember seeing the mist and hearing the sounds of the animals. It is a sight I will never forget.

  1. What a disappointment! One can never tell when there is going to be a whiteoout there.
The Midlands can do that, too. I remember while staying there when we had a friend out from UK only to have three solid weeks of mist!
