Weekly Photo Challenge: Today

This morning I was practising a bit with my camera, trying to improve my close-up shots. I need a bit more practice taking close-ups – but I am having fun doing it. These are ones I felt came out the best:

Yesterday my girls came home from school with some wild spring flowers they had picked in the park. They know I love flowers and wanted to please me with a surprise. I thought I would take a picture as a memento.

These two small ornaments were chosen my girls when they were much younger. I remember when we bought them: they wanted something pretty for our apartment (which was quite bare as we did not have much when we first came to Toronto). They were so excited to choose something that they liked.

The third photo is a gift my youngest received. She loves faeries and this one is close enough for her to enjoy.

What objects do you have around your home to bring a bit of beauty into your life?

  1. The ornament is excellent. Taking photo’s every day is a good idea but make sure you have enough hard drive space to store them! 😉 I see you are using a Canon powershot, so you’re taking it out of its comfort zone with these and it’s done really well. If you’re intending to do lots of macro work in the future you might need to think about a more dedicated camera and lens combination to get the best. But these are very good. Keep taking the photos 🙂

    1. Thank you for your advice. Looking at other people’s photos on their blogs is actually encouraging me to go out of my comfort zone. And if I enjoy the experience, I may know what to ask Santa for this year 🙂

  2. They are so beautiful and you captured them so nicely too. I love these kind of things in the home… My home full of little things and toys too 🙂 You can guess… Thank you, with my love, nia

    1. It helps, I hope, to create a sense of pride in them with their surroundings – and shows them that their opinion is valued too. Now I need to work on them helping me to dust them 🙂

  3. I am not a shopper or a trinket girl…but I do have some tea cups that my grandmother used to have when she was alive. They now sit in my cupboard. When I see them, they remind me of her. I also have a photo – black and white of them when they married and of their parents marriage when they married. These are my favorite ‘trinkets’. Pics we took on vacay in Europe and in Panama are also favs. Plants and framed items adorn our home and these also are my kind of trinkets.

    1. Framed photographs of loved ones are the best, I feel, especially of those long gone. I know I look at smile and smile with pleasant memories in my head as I look at their pictures.

  4. So sweet of your children to bring you flowers. Those special ornaments are really special when you get older. I brought some special ones with me to NZ.

    1. I know that when one moves countries you can only take so much with you – and the special ones are the ones that go with; the ones that have certain memories attached to them.

  5. Love the cherub! I have some tall bookends, seahorses to me but not necessarily to someone else, that I display separately, a plum coloured glass tealight, and a silk Turkish carpet, wall mounted in a frame, that define my living space.

  6. Hi,
Lovely photos, the pink and the white flowers look beautiful together, and I love those unicorns. 🙂
I also used to love fairies, they always seem to bring on a smile.
