The park is filled with the buzz of people. Children run in between adults, laughing and carefree. Large bags are unzipped and colourful objects taken out. These are handled with care; many are looked at in admiration. String is unfurled and the colourful creations are given to the wind. The wind takes them eagerly, bringing them higher and higher towards the blue sky. Heads on the ground look up, admiring the colours, the size, and the different types of kites that fill the sky. It is the annual kite festival, and people are out showing their kites and their flying skills.
Have you ever been to a kite festival?

Years ago when our sons were small we happened upon a kite festival while visiting Wright Pat Air Force Museum. It was amazing to see so many colors and styles of kites.

The one time I saw a kite festival, it was also by chance. We also loved the kites we saw. They were pretty amazing.

You would have so many pictures to take Jo – and it would be difficult to choose a favourite one.

We have a small one at a local beach, Colline, but I always mean to go to a larger festival. Maybe this year! I’m intrigued by kite surfers too (and hot air balloons 🙂 )

I haven’t seen hot air balloons in action – maybe one day.
And I look forward to seeing your pictures of the kite festival 🙂

I have flown some as a child, used to be quite a tradition here. Don’t see as many in the cities anymore sadly. Lovely post that made me nostalgic Colline.

Unfortunately in the cities there is not enough space to run and fly a kite 😦

I haven’t been to a kite festival, but that photo is lovely; it brings to mind sea creatures drifting up toward the light. Just came across your blog today, and am enjoying the “potpourri” of fun images and descriptions. I’ve added it to a list of positive sites that I keep on my own blog. Happy spring!

I went to the International Kite Festival in Weifeng, China last year. An outstanding experience. It’s held every April and many countries participate.
I also love that in the parks around me so many people fly kites.

I cannot take credit for it John. Seems like it was created by a group of high school students.
