The African landscape can be dry and harsh – especially during the winter months. There is, however, a beauty in the hues of brown and green.

The grasses blend in with the colours of the rocks on the mountainside while the warm sun looks on.

Looking out into the distance at the horizon, the solitude of a tree rises amid the smaller brush.

The mountainside is beginning to green as the cooler months pass. Soon this view will change during the rainy summer months.

As the sun is setting, the mountainside and the beauty of the African landscape is shown in its golden light.

I love the African mountainside and every time I visit it, I embrace its beauty.
Have you experienced the African landscape in wintertime?

That one I took as the sun was setting. I loved how the sunlight gave the mountainside a golden colour.

The fact that it is untouched by man-made structures makes it even more beautiful.

nice, not to meet a hungry lion family there in Africa – I would prefer to be a wanderer around Edinburgh searching for the Limes…

Yes I have, and in summer too – roads absolutely lethal due to potholes amd bad driving but wonderful scenery and wonderful people 🙂 I remember sitting on the back of the farm pick-up looking after the beer and some other supplies while having some banter with local guys in Chegutu who couldn’t believe the British man was acting as driver for the African lady boss! One of my enduring memories of a holiday working on my Mother-in-Law’s farm 🙂

Beautiful photos which really back up your words about being dry and harsh – really very well captured – my winter visits in Africa only counts egyptian, tunisian and moroccan visits… 🙂

The sun is the best for light camera effect. I dread the desert areas in summer, so I can’t complain when I’m in the desert when it’s during winter. 😉 I love seeing boulders. Great captures, Colline!

Thank you Rommel. 🙂 The dessert is one landscape I have yet to see.

Lovely photos, Colline. They reminded me of a trip to Zimbabwe in the winter. The light on the kopjes, and the Matopos Hills in particular was dreamlike. Oh yes, and Great Zimbabwe too. It was hard to believe it was real in the otherworldly afternoon light. There are photos somewhere in my archives.
