As we near the end of January, I cannot quite believe that a month has already passed. It has also been 5 weeks since I enjoyed the feel of the warm sun on my back while savouring my experience on our family vacation in the Dominican Republic. It has been five weeks since I relaxed by the pool or on the beach reading my book. Time has gone by so quickly.
I loved seeing the view of the ocean from the beach. We also discovered the sea view from a newly opened pool – what a treat!
The light caused a beautiful reflection on the pool. As not many people had yet discovered the pool, its serene waters were not disturbed by the enjoyment of those soaking up the sun.
We never had a chance to immerse ourselves in these pristine waters, preferring instead to swim in the sea or the larger pools. However, while we were there sipping our cocktails, we did enjoy the view and the peaceful atmosphere.
Saturday was the start of the lunar New Year and, as per tradition, my family and I celebrated its beginning. This year we decided to go to the buffet at a local restaurant instead of cooking at home. The food is not totally authentic Chinese, but the atmosphere is fantastic.
We loved seeing the red lanterns that decorated the restaurant. They really give an air of festivity to the space.
The photos I took with my phone don’t quite show the richness of colour that had invaded the space, but they do give a sense of it. I enjoyed walking under the bright colours to choose the dishes that I wanted to taste.
The restaurant was extremely busy with the normal Saturday evening clientele as well as the families that were there to celebrate the start of the new lunar year.
My family an I had a wonderful time. We enjoyed the food and the conversation flowed easily. It was definitely a good start to the New Year.
Do you celebrate the beginning of the lunar year? If so, I wish you a wonderful Year of the Rat.
January has been my second month of bullet journaling and I am enjoying the process so far. I find setting up the spreads relaxing as I let my mind wander while creating. For my January spreads, I decided to use the theme of Chinese lanterns as this month sees the celebration of the Chinese New Year.
It was fun drawing all the lanterns and I was delighted to see the result. Opposite my cover page for the month, I decided to choose a bookish quote. My daughter found the perfect one for me from Harry Potter.
It did take me a while to draw all the little lanterns for all the spreads – especially as I use the A4 size journal. The time doodling and colouring, however, passed quickly while I listened to music and chatted with my daughters if they were sitting at the table with me.
I have started tracking certain habits – especially those that are linked with my annual goals. It has been interesting for me to see the trends.
My weekly spreads have definitely been a delight. I am recording any tasks and events that have been planned for the week. I am also using the page as a journal to record my thoughts and experiences.
I am enjoying the lantern lights that I have created for January. Now I need to think of the theme I should use to create pages for February.
Have you created January spreads for your journal/planner?
Since the beginning of 2020, we have been experiencing overcast, grey days (I am really missing the sun and the long walks on the beach we experienced on our vacation). When I get home, the light we do experience is already fading requiring us to put on the lights in our place.
This week I am trying to finish the setup of my bullet journal and the dim and fading light makes it difficult for me to see the dots in the journal. My daughter has loaned me her lamp and now whenever I feel the creative urge, I am able to journal no matter what the natural light.
The lamplight is perfect and enables me to journal a little every day. I do miss the natural light though and wish daily to see the sun and blue skies.
At the resorts, pools are emptied by 6pm as they are cleaned of the day’s activities. At this time, dinner restaurants are opened and the nightly entertainment begins. The pool, however, still shows an attractive face.
We loved the look of the pool near our hotel and at night time it looked really magical. I loved the blue of the night lights – such an attractive way to warn people that water is approaching.
Each night we walked by the beautiful sight while meandering along to the singing and dancing performances; and then saw this sight before entering the building that housed our room.
Natural light leaves quickly in the Dominican Republic! On one of our first beach walks, my husband and I were caught unawares and needed to make our way back to our room in the dark. Luckily the way back from the beach was beautifully lit.
The night lights give the resort a different feel and added another dimension to our explorations.
When at the resort last week, I admired some of the Christmas decorations that had been put up. I much preferred the more delicate and more ornate ones to the tacky Santa Clause and Christmas tree blowups that sprinkled the resort.
I loved the angels set in the garden of our hotel lobby. During the day, the frames were nothing special to look at, but at night their light shone brightly.
