Looking Up

It is not often we look up, instead focusing on what is ahead of us. However when approaching the Ferris Wheel at Gold Reef City, an amusement park in South Africa, my girls and I could not resist looking towards the sky.

The view looking up encouraged us to want to see the view looking down. We, of course, went to stand in line to ride it. (To see the views we saw of the park and of Johannesburg, you can visit the post in which I share the photos.) The stunning views from above did not let us down – and reminded us that looking up sometimes leads to good things.

When did looking up lead to a positive experience for you?

    1. That is interesting to know Ruth – his invention has certainly brought a lot of joy to people.
The Ferris wheel at Gold Reef City was decorated this way for the Soccer World Cup in 2012 that was hosted by South Africa.

    1. I was a bit scared to go up in the Ferris wheel but strangely I felt quite safe on this ride. It helped, I think, that there was no wind at the time.

  1. How can anyone stand near a Ferris wheel, especially the large ones that are so popular now, and not look up? When I visit Michigan, in the country far from any city lights, the nighttime sky is filled with countless stars. Like standing near a Ferris wheel, you really must look up.

  2. I was thinking about this recently, how when I used to walk around the city I always walked so I looked at the ground, but now that I have started photographing, I am always looking up to see what I might have missed.

    1. I feel the same Leanne. Now I look up, sideways, under. This I never used to do before I started blogging and sharing my photos through these photo challenges. It certainly changes ones perspective.

  3. I enjoy visiting your lovely city, where looking up marks me as a tourist. But we have always found Toronto natives to be ever patient and helpful to us, no matter how much our ‘rubbernecking’ gets in their way!
