A Graduation Dress

Tomorrow my daughter is graduating from her middle school. Her school organises a graduation ceremony with a dance for the students afterwards and everyone is expected to attend the celebration well-dressed for the occasion. After much searching, we finally found a dress appropriate for my daughter’s age that fits her well and that she likes.

The only change I had to make to the dress was to add wide straps as she does not feel comfortable in a strapless dress. Yesterday I took the time to hand sew the straps and add them onto the evening dress.

The result is a dress that looks like it was designed with straps and a happy daughter who will feel comfortable for the entire evening.

Now we just have to finalise the shoes and accessories 🙂

What do you think of strapless dresses?

  1. Strapless dresses are very feminine on a right figure 🙂 Your talents amaze me, Colline. Happy to have more insight into your life and link to you post.

  2. Such a beautiful dress . you made a marvellous alteration there Colline .
I have to say I think more girls ,,, young women should choose a dress with straps 😉
Enjoy the day – I’m sure you all will .

  3. A dress is more feminine and lady-like. Ask me I am so used to wearing jeans that it feels unreal to put on a dress (My son is getting married and my friends politely told me it is better to wear a dress) I think your daughter would look beautiful in her dress. Hope she enjoys the ball

    1. We have chosen the right outfit for her as she looks comfortable in this dress – there were so many she tried on that made her feel awkward. Sometimes a dress is required – though in my opinion a classy pant-suit can also look dressy 🙂

  4. simple, classy, nice… 🙂 btw, we don’t have all this graduation “stuff” in Europe, but I did experience it during our 5 years in Houston, TX… 🙂

  5. I love it, and even more, I love that you and she shared the special occasion to make it even more special with a mom/daughter collaboration! Congrats to you and to her 🙂

  6. I have had to do the same thing for my daughter. I think strapless dresses work only for the well endowed, and your daughter will look and feel beautiful on her special day. Congratulations!
